A Mid-Summer's Note
...and a few requests for upcoming coverage!
It’s hard to believe that we’re nearly halfway into July. I’m slightly refreshed from a quick little reading retreat in the Catskills with my pup Scout (pictured above), and it was lovely. Highly recommend the book Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid - very good.
Somehow, I’ve roped myself into running the Boilermaker Road Race this weekend (15K), so send positive vibes!
Popping in ahead of the weekend with some requests for upcoming articles:
Rapid request: Shikoku, Japan culinary expert.
Working on a quick turnaround piece for Afar, highlighting an 8-day solo temple-to-temple pilgrimage trek I did on the island of Shikoku, Japan, with a culinary focus. I need a quote from an expert on the regional specialties (like Tokushima Ramen, Sanuki Udon, locally brewed sake, sea bream) and why they are a must-try when visiting, as well as how the cuisine ties into/compliments the experience of the multi-day hike.
**deadline for this is Monday, July 13th by 10am.
FALL DESTINATIONS AROUND THE WORLD!
Putting together a round-up for Lonely Planet, highlighting the best places to see fall colors around the world. Per usual, I’m prioritizing offbeat or lesser-known destinations, and if they’re well-known, they would need a fresh twist or a unique way to approach leaf-peeping.
If you’re submitting an idea for this one, please include the following as it’ll be super helpful when making the final list:
Why is this destination one of the best in the world for foliage viewing?
What colors can visitors expect?
What are some of the best ways (or one standout activity) to explore + view the gorgeous colors here? (hiking trails, paddling, road trip routes, cable cars, camping, a beautiful vineyard picnic? etc.) Bonus points if there’s a new offering (such as a new tour or program).
SUBJECT LINE: Country first, please!
**the deadline for this callout is EOD Thursday, July 16th.
**Please email me directly with ideas: girlwanderlist@gmail.com
For some of these calls, I’m unable to respond to everyone, but please know how much I appreciate everyone’s ideas! Each one is added to a special folder for the callout, and if it’s a fit, you’ll definitely hear from me; if not this time, it’s always possible that another project will come up and I can use it then.
